The Kamra ta’ l-Ispizjara ta’ Malta is holding its third Continuing Professional Development (CPD) dialogue meeting on Monday 23rd May entitled ”Childhood Obesity – Pharmacists’ Interventions” at the Professional Centre, 127, Sliema Road, Gzira at 7.30pm. Speakers at this event are Dr. Victoria Farrugia Sant’ Angelo, Medical Co-Ordinator Primary Child Health & National Immunisation Service, Primary Health Department and Ms. Maria Ellul, Public Health Nutritionist, Directorate for Public Health Regulation.

During the session Dr. V. Farrugia Sant’ Angelo will present the local scenario in terms of Malta’s ranking in adult and childhood obesity with a special focus on the latter. She will discuss data from a local study which was held in Primary School Children. The figures presented will really set us thinking on how we should be preventing this situation from happening to our paediatric population. Following that Ms. M. Ellul will provide tools and guidance to community pharmacists so that they may be in a better position to refer/advise patients appropriately.
Dr. Charmaine Gauci, Director Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, Ministry of Health, Elderly and Community Care has also been invited to give us an insight on the National strategies and goals in place to prevent overcome this phenomenon.
After the presentations the floor will be opened for discussion with a highly interactive “Ask the Expert” session taking the form of an open dialogue with practice related questions. The speakers will answer to questions from the floor.
