Following the outstanding Childhood Obesity session last Monday 23rd June the Kamra is holding the 4th CPD Dialogue Session entitled ”Helping Patients Having a Disability” next Monday 30th May @ 7.30pm for 7.45pm @ 127, Professional Centre, Sliema Road, Gzira. Kamra President Ms. Mary Ann Sant Fournier will chair the event. Guest Speakers from the Association of Speech Language Pathologists include Gertrude Buttigieg (President), Sandra Ameen and Dorianne Formosa (ASLP committee members).
The three (3) speakers have different areas of expertise including services to children and services to adults and alternative means of communication. Thus they can handle a broad range of queries such as communication and swallowing difficulties in children, the aftermath of a stroke in an adult patient, the importance of food thickeners to aid/stimulate the swallowing reflex, amongst others. They will start the presentation by introducing us to their profession and how they work with other Health Care Professionals and how we can work with them. Following that they will pick on specific cases as mentioned above.
After the presentations the floor will be opened for discussion with a highly interactive “Ask the Expert” session taking the form of an open dialogue with practice related questions.
For those members who are interested there is a very interesting Learning & Development article published on the Pharmaceutical Journal of the 5th March 2011 entitled “How to help if a patient can’t swallow”. It will serve as a very good basic knowledge to help understand better part of the CPD dialogue session focusing on swallowing. You may request the article by sending us an e-mail.

Certificates of attendance for those pharmacists having attended at least 3 sessions will be handed out in June.
Those wishing to settle their annual (2011) Chamber membership fee of 35 euro may do so at the door. A fee of 10 euro per session is applicable for non-members.
