The Kamra has written to the Minister of Health to protest over the issue of unacceptable demands by the POYC Department to specific pharmacy or pharmacies with respect to the supply of officially out of stock medicines to specifically named patients.
The Kamra has reiterated its position on the out of stock situation and the need for effective pharmaceutical direction at POYC Department whilst stating to the Minister that ”pharmacists are independent and autonomous health care professionals and not Government’s passive conduits.”.
The following is the relevant text of the Chamber’s email to the Minister of Health sent earlier on this week :
”…..the Chamber insists that, once and for all:
you direct the POYC administration on the fact that pharmacists are independent and autonomous health care professionals and not Government’s passive conduits.
The medicines out of stock situation is resolved without further delay to serve entitled patients equally and also to ensure that clauses 4 and 13 of the Memorandum of Understanding, which unequivocally refer to the timely supply of medicines to pharmacies as per patient entitlements, are honoured;
you ensure effective pharmaceutical direction at the POYC Department.
In this regard, the Chamber is directing all pharmacists in the POYC to refrain from accepting to carrying out such requests.
